Professional Experience

Laura Granier is a shareholder with Lionel Sawyer & Collins' Litigation and Gaming and Regulatory Law Departments. Laura’s practice includes complex commercial litigation and regulatory work including government affairs. Laura has successfully handled several issues of first impression involving mineral resources in Nevada including a 2011 case ruling a state tax imposed on mining claims unconstitutional as well as cases involving complex land tenure issues.  Laura successfully defended one of the largest qui tam actiions brought in Nevada challenging the constitutionality of an initial public offering.  She has worked closely with legislators in previous sessions on challenging issues related to revenue, education, land use and mineral resources. Her regulatory experience includes a broad spectrum of work before various agencies with regulatory jurisdiction over environmental issues, mining, education, taxes, land use, and public utilities. 


Laura is the immediate Past Chair of the Nevada Public Education Foundation and sits on the Executive Board and Steering Committee of Washoe “Ready for Life” – a movement aimed at decreasing the drop out rate and engaging and re-engaging youth so that they graduate high school ready for life. Laura is also the Chair of the Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar of Nevada and a former Barrister with the American Inns of Court. Laura serves as a member of the University of Nevada Reno College of Liberal Arts Advisory Board and as the alumni member of the Miss Nevada Scholarship Organization. She served as President and Vice-President of the Northern Nevada Women Lawyers Association and launched the NNWLA “adopt-a-family” holiday program which provides thousands of dollars in gifts every year to local families in need during the holiday season. 


Laura was a 2007 recipient of the “20 Under 40” Award presented by the Reno Tahoe Young Professionals Network in conjunction with the Reno Gazette-Journal.  She was also named as one of Northern Nevada's Top 35 Attorneys by Nevada Business  magazine's Legal Elite 2011 survey.  Laura has also been named to Best Lawyers for her work in Commercial Litigation and is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Prior to joining Lionel Sawyer & Collins, Laura worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Procter Hug, Jr., then Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is a graduate of the University of California Davis School of Law, where she was Executive Editor of the U.C. Davis Law Review and a judicial extern to The Honorable Robert Rose, Supreme Court of Nevada.
